Instrument Design
The following instruments and proof-of-concepts were created by Dominic Dimambro.
Granular Effects Unit
This desk-top effects unit interfaces DSP software Pure Data with the Linux-capable single-board computer Bela. The unit’s controls for grain density, speed/direction, and pitch, invites the user to generate textures ranging from stuttering grain chops to dreamy sound baths. The unit’s versatility allows it to be used as a post-production sound design tool as well as a live effects-processing send.
Delay Effect Unit
This desk-top effects unit interfaces DSP software Pure Data with the Linux-capable single-board computer Bela Mini. This unit invites the user to perform discrete delay-lines, their delay time, as well as a global feedback control to impart unique characteristics onto their original sound. The unit’s versatility allows it to be used as a post-production sound design tool as well as a live effects-processing send.
Simon Game Variation
Proof of Concept
This proof-of-concept serves as a rhythmic variation on the timeless Hasbro game Simon. The player must replicate a random sequence within the allotted timing window. This Simon variation rewards players for flawless performance, and grows increasingly difficult in speed as well as timing.
